Indiana Legislative Update

We have seen a record number of bills filed this year that impact the cannabis market in Indiana. It is more important than ever to stay informed on the latest happenings so that you can continue to educate lawmakers on the impact of these bills. So, where do the bills that impact Midwest Hemp Council members stand?

HB 1043 was amended on 2nd Reading last night. The amendment comes at the request of the State Seed Commissioner and illustrates MHC’s working relationship with our regulator to ensure we continue to have the best hemp production program in the country. This bill is now on the 3rd Reading calendar, where it is eligible or an up or down vote. Please contact your State Representative and ask that they vote “yes” on HB 1043 to support our farmers and small businesses in Indiana.

Midwest Hemp Council Position: Support

SB 209 attempts to narrow the definition of a low THC hemp extract, which would have a devastating impact on small businesses in Indiana and restrict legal access to products that have been improving the quality of life for Hoosiers since 2018. This language was added to the bill on 2nd Reading, with no opportunity for public or industry input. Contact your State Senator today and ask that they vote “no” on SB 209 to protect the hemp industry in Indiana.

Midwest Hemp Council Position: Oppose
